Long plunged into darkness, the Lwama military camp in Kindu, Maniema Province, is turning a decisive page. The base’s 17 buildings and 340 rooms, which were once without electricity, had been mired in a crippling energy crisis. This situation hindered not only the efficiency of administrative management but also the daily lives of the military personnel.

To address this challenge, an electrification project was launched with the support of the Belgian Army, as part of its assistance to the DRC’s Ministry of Defense. GoShop won the contract and deployed a micro-power plant with a capacity of 108 kWp / 60 kVA / 566 kWh. This custom-built facility now ensures a constant power supply for all of the site’s infrastructure.

A Robust Solution for Uninterrupted Power

To ensure long-term energy independence, GoShop Energy has deployed a state-of-the-art infrastructure designed for continuous operation:

Generation

216 500-W solar panels (108 kWc)

Conversion

6 Victron Quattro 48 V / 10,000 VA (60 kVA) inverters

Smart management
  •  3Victron MPPT RS 450/200 controllers and
  • 3 Fronius Symo 20 inverters
Storage

72 2 V / 3,932 Ah OPZS batteries, totaling 566 kWh of reserve capacity

Results and Impact

Since the micro-power plant went into operation, perimeter security has been enhanced thanks to continuous lighting. The stable power supply ensures the proper functioning of critical equipment and facilitates the administrative and logistical management of the base.

Beyond the operational aspect, this project improves the living conditions of military personnel, providing them with a dignified environment conducive to rest.

A Vision for the DRC

This project illustrates the potential of solar energy to modernize strategic infrastructure in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. By providing a reliable source of energy where darkness once reigned, this facility actively contributes to the country’s sustainable development.

At GoShop Energy, every installation is the result of engineering tailored to on-the-ground realities. We are committed to providing sustainable and accessible energy, because every successful project is another step toward a DRC where electricity is a right for all.
