In the healthcare sector, access to a stable power supply is an absolute priority. Yet in the DRC, the instability of the power grid undermines healthcare infrastructure and jeopardizes patient care. For vital facilities like Mulamba Hospital in Bukavu, having a stable solar power source is essential.
A solution designed by GoShop Energy
To address this challenge, GoShop Energy deployed a customized solution in collaboration with the Panzi Foundation and Google. This project is part of a large-scale program aimed at strengthening the energy self-sufficiency of more than 50 buildings managed by the Foundation; the first project implemented involved Mulamba Hospital, a strategic facility that houses, among other things, the African Institute of Surgery in South Kivu.
Our teams installed a 90 KVA/160 kWh/86.4 kWh solar-hydropower plant, designed for optimal 24/7 reliability. This state-of-the-art system is based on:
192 panels, each rated at 450 W,
6 inverters rated at 48/15 kVA,
6 MPPT chargers rated at 250/100, 32 BYD batteries rated at 5 kWh,
and 1 generator as a backup power source for optimal reliability,
This smart system optimizes solar production and ensures an instant switchover in the event of a power grid outage, guaranteeing the continuous operation of critical medical equipment.
Results and Impact
Thanks to this installation, Mulamba Hospital is supplied with clean and reliable energy to ensure:
- the continuity of care and surgical procedures,
- a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions,
- the safety of critical medical equipment,
- and lower costs for alternative energy sources.
This energy transition provides healthcare staff with a peaceful environment, allowing them to focus exclusively on their mission: providing care.
