Every detail matters when it comes to providing a safe and stable haven for the orphaned and vulnerable children at Maison Kwetu in Kolwezi (Lualaba). Yet, for far too long, the lack of electricity has cast a shadow over their daily lives. Frequent power outages, caused by the fragility of the SNEL grid, deprived these children of light, safety, and a comfortable, secure environment for a stable life.

In the darkness, the children ate their meals, left their homework unfinished, and, haunted by anxiety, the lack of electricity made daily life unbearable. This was despite the selfless dedication of the educators, who had to redouble their efforts to compensate for these shortcomings. However, the lack of electricity made their mission exponentially more difficult. This situation deeply affected the children’s morale and the quality of their care. The continuation of this energy insecurity threatened not only the mental and physical well-being of these young people, but also the very essence of Maison Kwetu’s mission to provide a safe haven.

With the support of Give Power and the expertise of GoShop Energy, Maison Kwetu was able to install an innovative and sustainable solar system.

In a record time of six weeks, the system was installed, comprising:

  • 15 solar panels (47.25 kWp) for optimal power generation

  • 6 Quattro inverters (60 kVA) ensuring unmatched performance

  • 1 Fronius Eco 27 inverter (27 kW) for increased efficiency

  • 15 BYD batteries (75 kWh of storage) ensuring reliable energy self-sufficiency

Maison Kwetu is now self-sufficient. The children benefit from a continuous and stable energy supply.

In the past, our daily lives were overshadowed by power outages. The children were often left in the dark, which hindered their well-being and development. However, since GoShop installed the solar panel, everything has changed. Light has returned to our lives, bringing stability and peace of mind. The children can now study, bathe, and grow up in a safe environment. It is a real relief for our center.

Together, we can bring light to even more lives. Join us in supporting other similar initiatives and building a sustainable and bright future for everyone!
