For many organizations, having a reliable power source is crucial to the smooth operation of their activities. In the media sector, this issue takes on added importance, as electricity plays a role in every phase of the information production and broadcast chain.
A radio station must be able to power its equipment, produce and process its content, broadcast its programs, and maintain a constant connection with its audience. Any prolonged outage could therefore disrupt the station’s operations.
In Kisangani, in Tshopo Province, Radio Maria was facing this reality. During power outages, the station was forced to run its generator, which consumed an average of 13 liters of diesel fuel per day. With an estimated cost of 5,000 FC per liter in Kisangani, its consumption amounted to approximately 65,000 FC per daynearly 1,950,000 FC per month exclusively for the fuel needed to operate its equipment and continue broadcasting its programs.
This reliance on the generator also raised environmental concerns. Its daily and prolonged use entails significant fuel consumption and, consequently, CO₂ emissions resulting from its combustion.
A system designed for reliability
Since September 17, 2026, GoShop Energy has installed a solar system to power the Radio Maria site.
The system consists of a photovoltaic array with a maximum capacity of 24.8 kWc, comprising 40 GoSolar panels rated at 620 Wp, 6 BYD LV FLEX lithium batteries rated at 5 kWh each providing a total storage capacity of 30 kWh— 2 RS 450/200 MPPT controllers, supplemented by 4 MPPT 250/100 controllers according to the system’s technical configuration, 1 Quattro 48/15 kVA, a CITEL DC surge protector, and a monitoring system that allows users to track its operation and performance.
This combination of photovoltaic generation and storage is an essential component for facilities that require a power supply available beyond just daylight hours. For reference
Financial Impact and Return on Investment
The energy generated by the photovoltaic panels is managed and stored so that it can be used according to the site’s needs, thereby enabling Radio Maria to:
With estimated savings of 1,950,000 FC per month, this solution could generate up to 23,400,000 FC in direct savings per year, providing the organization with additional financial flexibility to strengthen its activities, expand its programs, and continue its mission of informing the public. Confirmed by Radio Maria Coordinator Pascal
By mitigating energy risks through the deployment of a sustainable photovoltaic solution, Radio Maria demonstrates GoShop Energy’s expertise in supporting media and institutional organizations. This transition which balances budget optimization, absolute operational continuity, and environmental leadership provides organizations with the essential prerequisites for carrying out their core missions with confidence.
