Limited access to a reliable power source affects many healthcare facilities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, especially in rural areas. Not only does this situation jeopardize emergency care, but it also threatens the operation of essential medical equipment and the well-being of patients.

Bulenga Hospital, located in South Kivu, is no exception to this reality, relying on fuel-intensive generators and an unreliable power grid, which causes regular outages of its essential services.

The Bulenga Solar System

To address this challenge while ensuring uninterrupted care, Bulenga Hospital was equipped with an advanced solar system designed for emergency situations by GoShop Energy.

The system consists of:

33.6 kWp of solar panels that generate the necessary energy during the day,

3 Victron Energy Quattro 48V/10000VA/140A charge controllers ensure power conversion, distribution, and continui

Battery charging is optimized by 4 MPPT 250/100 controllers and 3 MPPT 150/100 controllers, ensuring maximum energy efficiency,

17 BYD LV Flex batteries, each with a capacity of 5 kWh, enabling continuous operation and  support during periods of low sunlight,

.

Impact

With this innovative solution, staff can perform their duties under ideal conditions, without worrying about power outages. Patients, for their part, benefit from a safe, well-lit, air-conditioned environment equipped with all necessary facilities. The hospital has transitioned from constantly managing a crisis situation to having the capacity to admit and treat patients.

By providing power to Bulenga General Hospital, GoShop Energy not only improves the daily lives of local communities but also demonstrates that a solar solution is economically viable in the face of the energy crisis in the DRC.
