Building new housing means considering the layout, residents’ comfort, and amenities.
However, how can a reliable power supply be guaranteed for the entire site?
In Beni, in the eastern DRC, a private developer chose to address this issue early on during the construction of his new buildings. The site includes three residential buildings, along with a gym, a kitchen, and a utility room that doubles as a storage area. With so many different spaces and uses, there is a need for a constant and reliable power supply.
Rather than relying on a 45 kVA generator as the primary power source, the owner sought a more sustainable solution to generate and store his own energy using solar power.
A Sustainable Solution for Housing
New buildings bring new needs, including lighting, residential amenities, the kitchen, the gym, and technical systems. GoShop Energy has therefore designed and deployed an energy solution tailored to the entire site.
The system architecture includes:
- 3 MultiPlus-II 48/1000/140 inverters, to handle energy conversion and management;
- 10 GoPower lithium batteries, each with a capacity of 5 kWh, for a total capacity of 50 kWh;
- 2 Lynx units, integrated into the electrical architecture and distribution system;
- 1 30 kVA main distribution panel for general electricity distribution on the site;
- 36 620 W monocrystalline bifacial solar panels, with a total power output of 22.32 kWp;
- 1 45 kVA generator, maintained as a backup power source.
The placement of the panels was also carefully planned to make the most of the available space. Of the 36 solar panels, 18 were installed on the roof of the utility room, while the other 18 were mounted on a carport. This configuration makes use of various areas of the site while integrating solar power generation into the existing environment.
The Result
After commissioning, the solar installation provided the owner with the primary source of electricity for new buildings. As a result, three new structures residential units, the gym, the kitchen, and the utility room can now be powered by this installation. The 45 kVA generator is not intended for continuous operation; however, it remains available as an alternative solution when needed.
