In the DRC, many healthcare facilities, particularly in rural areas, suffer from limited or non-existent access to a reliable and sustainable source of energy. This precarious situation compromises not only emergency care, but also the operation of medical equipment and patient comfort. The Bulenga hospital in South Kivu was faced with this reality, relying on fuel-hungry generators and an unstable power grid, resulting in frequent interruptions to its services. A reliable, clean and sustainable energy solution was therefore imperative for this infrastructure.

The Bulenga solar system

To meet this challenge, Bulenga Hospital was equipped with a state-of-the-art solar system by GoShop energy.

Its configuration comprises

  • 33.6 kWp of solar panels produce the energy required during the day.
  • 3 Quattro 48V/10000VA/140A charging converters from Victron Energy ensure the conversion, distribution and continuity of the power supply.
  •  Battery charging is optimized by 4 MPPT 250/100 regulators and 3 MPPT 150/100 regulators, guaranteeing maximum energy efficiency,
  • 17 BYD LV Flex batteries, each with a capacity of 5 kWh, for continuous operation even in low sunlight conditions.

This system ensures the availability of electricity 24/7 at Bulenga hospital without interruption, without fuel, and without stress: medical operations are no longer postponed; staff can work in stable conditions; patients benefit from a safe, lit, refrigerated and equipped environment.

By bringing electricity to Bulenga, GoShop Energy is helping to save lives and strengthen local healthcare capacity.
